There are more than 12 million Filipinos living in extreme poverty, according to a 2015 report by the Philippine Statistics Authority. This is an overwhelming and heartbreaking figure. But Project PEARLS believes that our small contributions can make ripples of positive change in the lives of underprivileged children.
Our main goal is to help children and families get out of poverty and to enable them to achieve their dreams. To do this, we give them the chance to study by providing them with scholarship grants and educational resources. Education will allow them to have a better future, thus, breaking away from the vicious cycle of poverty.
Currently, we have more than 500 scholars in three communities – Brgy. Batia, Bocaue, Bulacan; Helping Land, Tondo, Manila and Zamboanga Sibugay. We also have more than 200 LitClub members in five communities – Tondo, Bulacan, Camarines Norte, Zambales & Zamboanga Sibugay. In addition, we aim to nourish and empower these children so they can develop their full potentials.
Homelessness is a humanitarian issue that affects us all. There are a lot of issues involved in it that cause poverty and suffering to people including hunger and poor nutrition, lack of access to services they deserve, exposure to different kinds of risks and more.
Pop-Up Bayanihan Village
To address the need of the homeless residing in Metro Manila, and eventually in other parts of the Philippines, we invite everyone to support Pop-Up Bayanihan Village, to be launched on November 30!
This is an “Outside the Box” Hospitality Program and a one-stop shop where our homeless neighbors can access critical services: showers, hygiene kits, nutritious meals, medical and dental check-ups with free medicines, physical and mental healthcare, literacy activities and health & wellness programs. To bring these services, we will be partnering with different organizations and individuals from the private and public sector.
Here are the following details on how you can support and be our Bayanihan partner:
• Help us provide hygiene kits for 300 homeless individuals in Manila.
• We will hold the first run of the program on November 30, 2019 at Arnold Jenssen Kalinga Center, Tayuman, Manila.
Fund Needed: Php 50,000
- For 300 Hygiene Kits (Hairbrush or comb, travel size toothpase and toothbrush, soap, shampoo, deodorant, baby powder, face towel)
- Budget per person: Php 166.50
Impact of the Pop-Up Bayanihan Village:
With this program, we aim to have the following outcomes:
- decrease homelessness
- bring hope to the hopeless
- children will be in school instead of the streets
- adults will have a source of income,
- ignite the Bayanihan spirit with individuals, nonprofit groups, public and private sectors in bringing human kindness to the streets.
and if the first pilot program will be successful, proof that sustainable can be replicated and introduced to other communities in need in the Philippines.
Let's ignite an "Outside-the-Box" Hospitality Revolution!
