Mission statement

PJPS is a ministry that shares the transforming love and mercy of God through holistic rehabilitation of incarcerated persons, their families, and the prison community as a whole.

PJPS Scholarship Program provides educational assistance to children of inmates ranging from grade school to tertiary studies.

Educational assistance, however, is not to be limited by formal school or intellectual training. Integral to this process of preparing for the future is the need for a formation program that would equip both the children and the parents in dealing with the difficult realities linked to the parent’s incarceration such as stigmatization by society, relational problems between parent and child, reduced family income, and possible conflict with the law.

This two-pronged approach aims to provide the beneficiary the necessary competence and character to address the harsh effects of the parent’s incarceration and of poverty. The program also provides counseling and monitoring of beneficiaries’ academic and personal development.

It is in this holistic approach to education that we hope to break the vicious cycle of poverty, ignorance, injustice, and criminality in which these children and parents are trapped.

Given enough encouragement and guidance, these children can be motivated to work hard enough and pursue studies most appropriate to their aptitude, background, and intellectual capability and can be helped in dealing with the stigma and the harsh realities of being a child of an inmate.
