Mission statement

Your Story is Safe with Us. #TheListeningMovement OUR MISSION To create more safe spaces through support groups and one-on-one listening sessions that offer free care and referral networks in every city across Luzon. OUR VISION A community where members can freely discuss their innermost thoughts and feelings, coping mechanisms, struggles, and victories without fear of judgment. OUR CORE VALUES: CARES CONFIDENTIALITY. Our certainty arrives from having previously trusted others with our secrets and flaws. We will do the same for you, remaining by your side to ensure you are not alone. ASSIDUOUSNESS. This entails being persistent and caring. Although we consider it a privilege, supporting others can be exhausting. We acknowledge this and take care of ourselves to maintain a high standard of service throughout every session. RESPECT. Respect is the most important element of MHHM. It makes us all equal, regardless of our individual coping skills or stress responses. We promote respect because we desire it. EMPATHY. Listening without pushing our own opinions is an accomplishment. That is why at MHHM, we emphasize that everyone deserves to be heard without bias. SELF-AWARENESS. During conversations, being aware of our objectives, ideas, and emotions can be very beneficial for our own personal development and healing. It keeps us anchored and grounded.

In 2018, the Mental Health Hour was launched in Cebu, marking the beginning of a movement dedicated to providing a safe space for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings. In 2019, with the unwavering support of our founder, Ms. Mialen Kenneth Buquia, and our committed co-founder and resident psychologist, Ms. Arianne Alvarez, the Listening Movement was extended to Manila.

On July 14, 2019, the first Mental Health Hour Manila Listening Session took place at Gordi Plaza, Legarda, Manila. This event was attended by our dedicated confidants and volunteers, who are the backbone of our initiative. To reach a broader audience, a Facebook page was created the same year, allowing us to connect with hundreds of people seeking a non-judgmental listening ear.

Our commitment to mental health advocacy led us to collaborate with our mentors, Dr. Robert Gerard Kelemen (Psychiatrist), Dr. Armand Fabella (Psychologist), and Dr. Pauline Quimson (Medical Doctor), who have been instrumental in guiding our decisions and endeavors. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, Mental Health Hour Manila has grown into a well-known support group that collaborates with various organizations to further our mission.

In 2024, Mental Health Hour Manila started to process its government registrations as a non-profit to serve the people in the community better.

We are a listening movement, a support group, a loose group of confidants and guests, a community of Empathic Listeners, a Psychoeducation unit, and a Referral Network (for those who need professional help).

We do NOT diagnose, we are NOT profiling people, we are NOT an academic unit, we are NOT an assessment center, we are NOT a Psychiatric or Psychological Clinic, and we are NOT an income-generating organization.
