Night Shore Patrol & Hatchery Support

🌙 The Mission Dahican Beach is one of the most important nesting grounds for endangered sea turtles or Pawikan in the Philippines. Every nesting season, mother turtles emerge from the ocean at night to lay their eggs along the shoreline.

However, these nests face threats from predators, flooding, artificial lights, and human disturbance. We are inviting passionate volunteers to join our Night Shore Patrol & Hatchery Support Program and become part of the frontline team protecting these gentle marine creatures.

Volunteers will work alongside the conservation team of Amihan sa Dahican and Balod sa Paglaom Inc. to help safeguard nesting mothers and improve hatchling survival rates through responsible conservation practices.

🐢 Volunteer Responsibilities

• Shoreline Monitoring – Conduct quiet beach patrols from 8:00 PM onwards to monitor turtle activity and identify nesting mothers along the shoreline.

• Nesting Site Assistance – Assist conservation mentors in documenting, marking, and securing nesting sites while ensuring minimal disturbance to the turtles.

• Egg Relocation & Hatchery Support – Carefully help transfer eggs to the Balod sa Paglaom hatchery following proper scientific handling protocols to maximize hatchling survival.

• Beach Conservation Awareness – Help educate visitors and beachgoers by politely reminding them to avoid flash photography, reduce noise, and turn off white lights near nesting zones.

• Environmental Stewardship – Support the protection of Dahican’s coastal ecosystem by promoting responsible eco-tourism and marine conservation practices. We welcome students, youth leaders, environmental advocates, travelers, photographers, divers, and anyone passionate about marine conservation and community service.

✅ Volunteers Requirements

• Must strictly follow the “No White Light” and “No Noise” policies during patrol operations.

• Physically capable of walking long distances on soft sand at night.

• Willing to work patiently, quietly, and respectfully around wildlife.

• Volunteers must shoulder their own transportation and meals.

⛺ Accommodation Camping space is available at the Amihan site. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tent, hammock, sleeping mat, flashlight with red light mode, drinking water, and personal essentials.

By volunteering, you directly contribute to the protection of endangered sea turtles and become part of a grassroots conservation movement that empowers local communities while preserving Dahican Beach for future generations.
