In celebration of International Coastal Clean-Up Day, We Lift Club, Inc. (WLC) invites volunteers to be part of a meaningful day of environmental action as we work together to protect our oceans and preserve the beauty of our coastlines.

Join us as we head to Aplaya, Baseco, Manila, for a community-driven coastal clean-up dedicated to reducing marine litter and helping keep the shores of Manila Bay clean and safe for everyone.

Baseco Compound is a coastal community located in the Port Area of Manila, near the mouth of the Pasig River and along Manila Bay. Situated on the reclaimed Engineer's Island, it has grown into one of the most densely populated communities in the city. Its name comes from the Bataan Shipyard and Engineering Company (BASECO), which operated the shipyard in the area during the 1960s. Before becoming a residential community, the site served as a shipyard under the National Shipyard and Steel Corporation (NASSCO). As workers and their families settled nearby over the years, the community we now know as Baseco was formed.

Because of its strategic location along Manila Bay, Baseco plays an important role in protecting marine ecosystems. Unfortunately, it is also among the areas most affected by marine debris carried by rivers and coastal currents. Through this coastal clean-up, we hope to reduce pollution, promote environmental awareness, and inspire collective responsibility in protecting our oceans—one shoreline at a time.

Event Details:

• Date: September 19, Saturday, 6:00 AM
• Location: Aplaya, Baseco, Manila
• Registration Fee: Php 500.00 for each volunteer
• Inclusion:  Approved DENR Permit, honorarium fee, and meals for park rangers who will assist us,
• Proceeds: A portion of the registration fee will be allocated to the We Lift Club’s Hopefull Campaign. This way, the event will not only benefit the environment but also support the education of indigenous children.

***Transportation expenses are not included. Depending on the number of participants, a van transfer may be arranged, with costs to be shouldered by the participants.

Proper Attire:

• Dark-colored, off-shaded clothes
• Pants
• Closed Shoes
• Cap or anything to cover your head from the sun

Participants Need to Bring:

• Gardening gloves “Reusable or Rubber”
• 3 to 5 pcs Sacks
• Extra clothes (shirt, pants, and footwear)
• Personal hygiene items
• Personal First Aid kit
• Tongs (Optional but recommended)
• Water tumbler
• Face towel or handkerchief
• Raincoat or Umbrella

Safety:

• There are first aiders assigned during the activity.
• Volunteers are required to sign the Safety and Liability waiver before the activity.
• Volunteers over the age of 60 are required to get clearance from their doctor to ensure that they can take on the activity without medical complications.
• Volunteers with underlying health conditions or expecting a pregnancy are also advised to check with their physician.

• Who can participate in the activity?
• The campaign is open to individuals, organizations, students, and volunteers.

• Will food and transportation be provided?
• No. Food and transportation support will be on the volunteers' and partner team's accounts.

• Is there a limit to the number of participants per group?
• There is no strict limit per group, as long as slots are available. However, participation is subject to first-come, first-served confirmation.

• Can children or high school student volunteers register?
• Yes, but Minors must be accompanied by an authorized adult guardian.

• Will participants receive a certificate?
• Yes. All participants will receive an E-Certificate of Participation.

• Is there a parking area available?
• There is no designated parking area at the site. Participants who will bring private vehicles may park at the Baseco Park, near the DENR-NCR Baseco Field Office. Please ensure vehicles are parked responsibly.
