Volunteer Storytellers for Public School Children

| Aug 17, 2026 | Volunteer Event

The ability to read is a fundamental right, yet many young Filipino children struggle to grasp this essential skill. At Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. (BINHI), we're working to change that, one child at a time. As a Volunteer Storyteller, you will bring stories to life by sparking imagination, nurturing a love for reading, and building the confidence our BINHI Scholars need.

About the Project

Founded in 2008, BINHI aims to improve English reading skills among identified non- and frustrated readers, aged 4-8, in public elementary schools and community centers through its 100-day free reading program.

Every month, a storytelling activity for the BINHI Scholars is conducted. We invite guest storytellers to read storybooks. A pre-recorded storytelling is posted monthly on BINHI's Facebook page and other social media platforms. The goals of this activity are a) to introduce Life Skills as a concept to the BINHI kids through creative storytelling and b) to introduce our advocacy to a wider audience.

To ensure volunteers are well-prepared, a virtual self-paced storytelling module will be shared followed by a Regrouping Orientation via Google Meet.

Volunteer Duties

  • Review the storytellers' module released via Canva Sites
  • Provide a sample recording reading a storybook for pre-screening
  • Attend a virtual orientation prior to the storytelling schedule
