The ability to read is a fundamental right, yet many young Filipino children struggle to grasp this essential skill. At Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. (BINHI), we're working to change that, one child at a time. As a Volunteer Tutor, you will help a BINHI Scholar overcome reading challenges and foster a lifelong confidence in learning.

About the Project

Founded in 2008, BINHI aims to improve English reading skills among identified non- and frustrated readers, aged 4-8, in public elementary schools and community centers through its 100-day free reading program.

The BINHI Buddy Project is a one-on-one personalized tutoring method of learning where BINHI Scholars will be coached by a volunteer to help them overcome reading challenges. The project responds to the needs of the scholar by focusing on the reading skill where there is a difficulty. It aims to prepare the scholar for independent learning.

The project will be implemented online using available free online platforms such as Google apps and Facebook.

Qualifications and Requirements

Before becoming a BINHI Buddy, one must pass the following criteria:

• Must be able to speak both English and Filipino
• Must be at least a college-level student
• An advocate of literacy and independent learning
• With keen observation skills
• Willing to commit at least 60 minutes of his/her time every week for 7 weeks (total time: 420 minutes)
• Must have a gadget and access to a stable internet connection
• Must be knowledgeable of basic apps used for online classes (Facebook, Google Meet, etc.)
• Willing to shoulder the scholar's internet load expenses (Approximately ₱30-₱60 per session, totaling ₱210-₱420 for 7 weeks)

• August 29, 2026 (Saturday) – Release of BINHI Buddy Orientation Materials via Canva Sites
• August 29-September 4, 2026 – Self-paced Learning for BINHI Buddy Orientation Materials (Asynchronous via Canva Sites)
• August 30-September 3, 2026 – Release of Demo Lessons of BINHI Buddy tutorial via Canva Sites
• September 5, 2026 (Saturday) – BINHI Buddy Tutors' Regrouping Session (Synchronous via Google Meet)
• September 7-13 2026 – Start dates of the BINHI Buddy tutorial
• October 19-25, 2026 – End dates of the BINHI Buddy tutorial
