Volunteer Event
Background
Sign Language Interpreters of Davao Region (SLIDAR) is committed to promoting the rights, welfare, and inclusion of the Deaf community through quality Filipino Sign Language (FSL) interpretation, advocacy, education, and community engagement.
As SLIDAR continues to grow, we recognize that building a sustainable organization requires more than programs, events, and advocacy activities. Strong organizations also need clear systems, documented processes, policies, and operational standards to ensure that their work can continue effectively and consistently.
SLIDAR is opening a unique volunteer opportunity for individuals interested in contributing behind the scenes through administrative work, documentation, process development, and accreditation preparation.
This role is particularly suited for those with experience in administrative work, documentation, organizational development, compliance, quality management, or process improvement—but anyone interested and willing to learn is welcome.
Why Volunteers Are Important
While many volunteer opportunities focus on physical events, community activities, and advocacy campaigns, this opportunity focuses on something equally important: strengthening the organization itself.
Our programs create immediate impact in the community, while strong documentation and systems help ensure that this impact can be sustained, improved, and carried forward into the future.
As SLIDAR works toward organizational accreditation and improved internal systems, we need volunteers who can help organize our knowledge, document our processes, and develop the standards that guide our operations.
By volunteering in this role, you will help build the foundation for a more organized, accountable, and sustainable SLIDAR.
Project/Position Title: Documentation and Accreditation Support Volunteer
Scope Statement
As a Documentation and Accreditation Support Volunteer, you will assist SLIDAR in developing and organizing organizational documents, particularly those related to accreditation requirements and the Manual of Operations.
You will work with the SLIDAR team to document existing practices, organize procedures, identify areas for improvement, and translate how SLIDAR operates into clear and useful organizational documents.
This is primarily a virtual, behind-the-scenes volunteer role focused on strengthening SLIDAR's internal systems and long-term organizational development.
Role and Responsibilities
Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting in the preparation, review, and organization of documents needed for accreditation
- Supporting the development and improvement of SLIDAR's Manual of Operations
- Documenting existing organizational processes, procedures, and workflows
- Helping develop clear and standardized administrative procedures
- Reviewing documents and identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or areas for improvement
- Organizing and consolidating policies, guidelines, forms, and other organizational records
- Helping ensure documents are clear, consistent, organized, and easy to implement
- Working with SLIDAR team members to gather information about existing practices
- Providing recommendations for improving documentation and internal processes
- Assisting with other documentation and organizational development tasks related to accreditation and sustainability
What Makes This Opportunity Unique?
Not all volunteer work happens on the field.
While SLIDAR continues to conduct physical activities, advocacy initiatives, and community events, we recognize that sustainable organizations need strong systems behind the work.
This opportunity allows you to contribute in a different way—by helping build the policies, procedures, documentation, and systems that will support SLIDAR for years to come.
Your work may not always be visible during an event, but it can become part of the foundation that makes future SLIDAR programs possible.
Duration: Flexible
The duration of this volunteer engagement is flexible and will depend on your availability and SLIDAR's documentation and accreditation priorities.
Volunteers may contribute on an ongoing basis or assist with specific documentation projects.
Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Experience or familiarity with administrative work, documentation, or office processes
- Good written communication and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and ability to organize information systematically
- Ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines
- Willingness to review and improve existing documents
- Ability to collaborate virtually with a team
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools
Experience in the following is an advantage but not required:
- Administrative work
- Documentation and records management
- Organizational development
- Accreditation or compliance
- Quality management
- Policy and procedure development
- Process improvement
- Nonprofit or community organization management
Most importantly, we are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping and willing to learn.
Availability
This is a fully virtual volunteer opportunity.
Most tasks can be completed remotely, with team meetings or coordination sessions held up to twice a month, depending on project needs.
We understand that volunteers have work, studies, and other commitments, so we will work with you to establish reasonable timelines and responsibilities based on your availability.
Who Can Join?
This opportunity is open to individuals who want to contribute their skills to organizational development and sustainability.
You do not need to be an FSL interpreter or a Deaf professional to participate.
If you have administrative experience, enjoy organizing documents, have an eye for improving processes, or simply want to help SLIDAR strengthen its systems, we would be happy to have you on board.
Orientation
Selected volunteers will be invited to an online orientation where they will:
- Meet the SLIDAR team
- Learn about the organization's work and current priorities
- Understand the accreditation process and documentation requirements
- Learn about the Manual of Operations project
- Discuss their role, responsibilities, and expected outputs
- Identify areas where they can best contribute
Further details and the online meeting link will be provided prior to the orientation.
Be Part of SLIDAR Beyond the Events
Volunteering with SLIDAR does not have to mean being present at every physical activity.
Sometimes, making a difference means building the systems that allow an organization to continue making a difference.
Through this opportunity, you can use your administrative, documentation, and organizational skills to help SLIDAR become more structured, sustainable, and prepared for the future.
And while your primary role may be behind the scenes, you are still part of the SLIDAR volunteer community. Volunteers in this role will continue to have the opportunity to participate in SLIDAR activities, events, and other volunteer initiatives whenever their availability allows.
If you are interested in helping SLIDAR strengthen the organization from within, we would love to have you join us.
