Kanlungan was established in 1988 to in response to the growing menace of abuse and exploitation of the street children in Metro Manila. While Kanlungan means refuge or sanctuary, Er-Ma stands for Ermita-Malate, the former red light district of the capital. In Kanlungan, children are provided with the necessary care, love, protection, rehabilitation, and education. Driven by Unity, love, respect and faith and God, Kanlungan helps improve the lives and opportunities of many less fortunate in the streets of Manila
 
Kanlungan's Residential Care and Training Center Level 1 (Short Term Shelter) caters to street children, to the neglected, abandoned and children victims of abuse.  The children are under the age of 6-16 and are both males and females.  
 
Reading/story telling sessions are part of the alternative education since they are out of school.  This will help them be encourage to study as well help improve their socialization and communication skills. 
 
What to Bring: 
-An open and child like heart
-Story books you want to share to the children 
-snacks (optional) you can also share to the children
