Dear VolunTutor,
We are happy to meet you! We hope you can come join us and make a difference in the lives of street children!
We are having a treat for the children on this Saturday. It won't be the usual tutoring in a classroom setting. We are visiting the National Museum of Natural History!
The children benefit a lot from going out and experiencing the subject instead of just talking about it in school. This is your chance to help discover the joy of learning!
WHO: We are helping scholars of He Cares Foundation. They are trying to maintain a certain grade average to remain in the program. They live in informal settler communities.
WHAT: We will meet volunteers at the museum at 2 PM. Please be there before 2 PM so you can greet the children once they arrive. We will form teams and stick together most of the time. All you need to do is keep an eye on the kids and make sure they are safe, don't get lost and enjoy the museum. There will be a lot of people around so once you arrive, introduce yourself to the team - look for Joey Dulalia / Christina Burke.
WHY: Our goal is to encourage the children to stay in school and to build their confidence that they can do it. Many of them are really smart and talented but they face tremendous challenges due to their environment, preventing them to even want to continue schooling.
WHERE: National Museum of Natural History
Teodoro F. Valencia Circle, Ermita, Manila, 1000 Metro Manila, Philippines
THINGS TO BRING:
- bring water, you might get thirsty!
- snacks to share with kids and volunteers (optional) - there will be around 50 kids that day.
- alertness
- just some enthusiasm!!!
Please alert Cathy if you plan to come - text 09324623769 so you can be informed of any last minute announcements.
