Bible Study With the Elders

Poverty Alleviation | Feb 14, 2015 | Volunteer Event

Hello IVolunteers!

Pls allow us to share some perspective about this event:

1. Remember the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15)? That shepherd who leaves the 99 to search for that one lost sheep? It pertains to Jesus, our Good Shepherd (John 10:11).

It implies that He nonetheless would have left the comforts of heaven, to expose Himself to suffering and death on Earth, just to save even one lost sinner.

Where's the connection with the elders, you might ask?

Well we not only have one sheep, but twelve dear ones, who are relatively fast approaching their final days. God is working twice as hard now for these people, so to speak.

It is also written that all heaven rejoices, when even one sinner repents (Luke 15:7). If God puts this so much weight and importance to the salvation of even one, how do you think He’ll see someone, who tries to help Him save, not just one but twelve (elders)?

Friends you don't have to wait to feel holy, before doing something for God. You don't have to wait for a happy flight of feeling either.

Faith is belief regardless of feeling. It all starts with the intellect; not with the emotion. In spite of your situation, just believe His word and take that action. This is what pleases God.

Writing this is not easy. This writer almost deleted this post, for the subject is not popular with men. I don't expect people flocking to this event, but regardless of what I feel, whether it be pride or shame - well it is written - God wants us to share His word. (Philippians 1:18).

2. David said that he wouldn't sacrifice anything to God - anything that wouldn't cost him (2 Samuel 24:24).

The same gospel truth had been imparted to us, when  Jesus took notice of the rich people, donating a great sum of money (yet  a small portion of their fortune) in the church - as opposed to the poor widow, who donated only a small amount (yet giving almost all her money away).

Jesus said the widow has put in more, than all the money the rich gave combined (Mark 12:41-44).

Friends, the bigger your sacrifice, the more pleased God is with your deed. Our shelter might be far from your place, but you should believe God's word, that He will take your sacrifice into account.

(Jeremiah 1:12 "... I'm watching to see that my word is fulfilled".)

We would be very happy, if you could join us for a Bible study this Saturday.  It won't be a preaching type of activity, but the program facilitators will pair you up with an elder, to read and discuss a Bible devotional material.

This is not just for the elders, but for everyone - for all of us needs saving as well (through God's Word).
