CDRC Online Disaster Response Campaigner

Disaster Preparedness & Response | Oct 19, 2020 | Volunteer Event

The Philippines experiences various natural and man-made hazards like typhoons, landslides, earthquakes, fires and volcanic eruptions throughout the year. In the past and up to the present, resources of relief goods are traditionally generated only when there is already a disaster in the community. This leaves many disaster survivors with very little or no food and other needs during the first days/weeks of a disaster. Thus, CDRC wants to be ready when the rainy days come. As the saying goes, "kapag may isinuksok, may madudukot".

What can I do?

You can be an online disaster response campaigner. Thru social media, information about the condition and needs of vulnerable communities in various locations in our country can be disseminated quickly and thoroughly to non-vulnerable sectors who have access to social media. They are mostly in urban areas in the Philippines and in many countries worldwide. When we provide reliable and adequate information we can raise the social awareness of our non-vulnerable kababayans enough to ask help for the most affected and least served sectors in our community.

Online Campaigner will:

  1. Share links to infographics, videos, presentation regarding disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation, response, recovery and rehabilitation.
  2. Share documentaries on recovery and rehabilitation projects showing how survivors recovered after a disaster.
  3. Share documentaries on:
    1. Interviews of beneficiaries who received assistance after a disaster.
    2. Experiences of the community on the ongoing pandemic.
  4. Share Information and Educational Campaign materials on:
    1. Earthquake
    2. Fire
    3. Typhoons
    4. Volcanic Eruption
  5. Solicit financial assistance /donations, which is more practical during this time of pandemic. The cash donations will be sent to our beneficiaries so they can buy the following items and/or use it for other needs (i.e. medical, education, psycho social, etc.):
    1. Face shields and Mask
    2. Alcohol
    3. Rice, vegetables, other food items
    4. Bath soap
    5. Laundry soap
    6. Toothbrush/toothpaste
    7. Education materials

Due to the ongoing pandemic which is a totally new experiences for almost everyone worldwide, there is a lot of information that need to be circulated. Even with the ongoing global health crisis, we still need to prepare for other hazards.
