Disaster Preparedness & Response, Volunteerism | Dec 16, 2023 | Volunteer Event

The Philippines experiences various natural and man-made hazards like typhoons, landslides, earthquakes, fires and volcanic eruptions throughout the year. In the past and up to the present, resources of relief goods are traditionally generated only when there is already a disaster in the community. This leaves many disaster survivors with very little or no food and other needs during the first days/weeks of a disaster. Thus, CDRC wants to be ready when the rainy days come. As the saying goes, "kapag may isinuksok, may madudukot".

What can I do?

You can be an online resource generation campaigner. Through social media, information about the condition and needs of vulnerable communities in various locations in our country can be disseminated quickly and thoroughly to non-vulnerable sectors who have access to social media. They are mostly in urban areas in the Philippines and in many countries worldwide. When we provide reliable and adequate information we can raise the social awareness of our non-vulnerable kababayans enough to ask help for the most affected and least served sectors in our community.

Online Resource Generation Campaigner will:

  1. Share links to infographics, videos, presentation regarding disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation, response, recovery and rehabilitation.
  2. Share documentaries on:
  3. Interviews of beneficiaries who received assistance after a disaster.
  4. Recovery and rehabilitation projects showing how survivors recovered after a disaster

3. Share Information and Educational Campaign materials on:

  1. Earthquake
  2. Fire
  3. Typhoons
  4. volcanic Eruption

4. Solicit financial assistance /donations, which is more practical during peace time. The cash donations will be sent to our Regional Parters (RPs) so they can buy the following items for prepositioning  and/or use it for other needs (i.e. medical, education, psychosocial, etc.0) of disaster survivors :

  1. Face shields and Mask
  2. Alcohol
  3. Rice, vegetables, other food items
  4. Bath soap
  5. Laundry soap
  6. Toothbrush/toothpaste
  7. Education materials

How can I be an online resource generation campaigner?

It’s very easy! Just attend our online orientation on on the first day of the 2 week schedule

Volunteers will be campaigning per batch. Each will have 10 days with 5 volunteers. It will depend on your availability. We will schedule everything after the orientation.

What do I need?

Smartphone with data, laptop or desktop and internet connection to connect to zoom and social media.

An open mind and lots of enthusiasm will help keep you going!

What do I get for being a CDRC volunteer?

As a CDRC volunteer, you will be able to help increase the disaster preparedness capacity of vulnerable sectors and thus contribute to strengthening disaster resilient communities. You will be able to help non-vulnerable sectors channel their resources and contribute in this endeavor. Aside from being able to help vulnerable sectors even before disasters happen, volunteers will be able to attend a Disaster Management Orientation and earthquake preparedness orientation, all for free. You can learn more and be prepared for disasters, for free!
