Help us help our BINHI Scholars learn how to read, speak, and spell better through our virtual tutoring program.

About the Project

The BINHI Buddy Program is a one-on-one personalized tutoring method of learning where BINHI Scholars will be coached by a volunteer to help them overcome reading challenges. The project responds to the needs of the scholar by focusing on the reading skill where there is a difficulty. It aims to prepare the scholar for independent learning.

The project will be implemented online using available free online platforms such as Google apps and Facebook.

Qualifications and Requirements

Before becoming a BINHI Buddy, one must pass the following criteria:

• must be able to speak both English and Filipino
• must be at least a college-level student
• an advocate of literacy and independent learning
• with keen observation skills
• willing to allot at least 240 minutes of his/her time to review the materials (asynchronous) and attend the two regrouping sessions (synchronous) before the rollout.
• willing to commit at least 60 minutes of his/her time every week for 10 weeks (total time: 600 minutes)
• must have a gadget and access to a stable internet connection
• must be knowledgeable of basic apps used for online classes (Facebook, Google Meet, etc.)

Timeline of Activities

• January 9-February 9: Registration period for volunteers
• February 13-February 23: Registration period for parents
• February 14-24: Introduction of volunteers with students
• February 10: Virtual Volunteer Workshop for Modules 1 & 2 (asynchronous via Google Sites)
• February 11-16: Review Modules 1 & 2 and do the corresponding activity
• February 17: Virtual Volunteer Regrouping for Modules 1 & 2 (synchronous via Zoom) and Virtual Volunteer Workshop for Modules 3 & 4 (asynchronous via Google Sites)
• February 18-23: Review Modules 3 & 4 and do the corresponding activity
• February 24: Virtual Volunteer Regrouping for Modules 3 & 4 (synchronous via Zoom)
• February 26-March 3: Start dates of the BINHI Buddy tutorial
• April 4: Virtual Volunteer Regrouping Check-In (synchronous via Zoom)
• April 29-May 3: End dates of the BINHI Buddy tutorial
• May 9: BINHI Buddy Wrap-up/Debriefing (synchronous via Zoom)
