The ability to read is a fundamental right, yet many young Filipino children struggle to grasp this essential skill. At Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. (BINHI), we're working to change that, one child at a time. As a Volunteer Tester, your support will provide us with crucial insights into our BINHI Scholars' development, ensuring we're effectively boosting their English language skills and fostering their academic growth.

About the Project

Founded in 2008, BINHI aims to improve English reading skills among identified non- and frustrated readers, aged 5-8, in public elementary schools and community centers through its 100-day free reading program.

The program runs for 20 weeks. Pupils are tested three times during the program period: pre-test, mid-test, and post-test. We are about to start a new school year for our program, and thus, we are preparing for the pre-test. Tester volunteers will help conduct one-on-one tests with Kindergarten to Grade 2 students aged 5-8 years old, based on their chosen schedule from June 30 to July 11 at one of our partner sites. Each test is expected to last around 20-30 minutes.

To ensure volunteers are well-prepared, a virtual self-paced training module will be available from June 21 to 27. This will be followed by a Regrouping Session on June 28, 2025 (Saturday) at 1:00 PM via Google Meet.

This sign-up is specifically for the orientation, which is a prerequisite for becoming a tester. Separate sign-up links for the testing schedules will be posted on a later date.

Qualifications and Requirements

We're looking for individuals who are:

• Passionate advocates for literacy.
• Able to listen and pay attention to important details.
• Willing to review the released tester materials from June 21 to 27, 2025.
• Willing to attend a virtual orientation prior to the testing schedule on Saturday, June 28, 2025 (Saturday) from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM via Google Meet.
• Willing to commit at least 3 hours of their time based on their chosen schedule/s from June 30 to July 11.
• Willing to travel to any of the following areas: Calamba City, Manila City, Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, Pasay City, Pasig City, and Quezon City.

Timeline of Activities

• June 21, 2025 (Saturday) | 1:00 PM – Release of BINHI Volunteer Tester Materials via Google Sites
• June 21–27 2025 – Self-paced Learning for BINHI Volunteer Testers (Asynchronous via Google Sites)
• June 28, 2025 (Saturday) | 1:00 PM – BINHI Volunteer Testers' Regrouping Session (Synchronous via Google Meet)
