"Empower young students through the visual language of photography.”

With Community Frames, Juan Portrait aims to impart basic photography skills to young students in public schools in remote areas, as a way of documenting the uniqueness of the people, environment, culture, and heritage of their community.

Using photography as the medium, these children are given a voice to narrate the beautiful, often unseen and unheard, stories of their communities.

---------------------------------------

Each student photographer only underwent 1 day's worth of photography workshop, a mix of classroom lecture and on-the-spot mentoring from Juan Portrait volunteers.

After the workshop, the digital cameras were left with the kids for a month so that each can shoot what they liked, express what they felt, narrate what they experienced.

The cameras were then retrieved, photos downloaded, then curated by a panel of experienced photographers.

Three weekends, over a span of three months, we exhibited thirty one photographs.

Above all, we have thirty one new authors capable of producing visual narratives about the world they live in.

Here are their featured photographs, starting with the Awardees for Best in Portrait, Best in Landscape, and Best in Cultural Photography.
